Ok, so I’ve been on a little bit of a junk food kick lately, but just for the record, I made these last night when I made the KFC fried chicken recipe. Making home made french fries can be really easy, you just need a little extra prep time – but it’s well worth it! It took me a few times to get the hang of how to make crispy, non-soggy french fries and I’ll share what I did.
I only had the small red potatoes, but they worked out just fine – be sure to scrub them free of any dirt. I had a bowl of ice water waiting, and my handy-dandy french fry cutter at my side.
I love this tool for making uniform cuts with! Making french fries with it is soo easy!
Then as I cut each potato, I submerged it into the icy water and let it sit for an hour or 2. Once it is time to drain them, lay them out single file on paper towels and pat them dry. It’s important that they are not wet before you fry them.
Drop them into the deep fryer and let them go about 6-8 minutes or until they begin to float on the surface and get a golden color. Drain them on a paper towel and garnish with kosher salt. Enjoy hot! Mmmhmm!
JP couldn’t wait to eat the “photo prop” I prepared for picture purposes. No, he did not want a kiddo plate – he had to have this one. So, he waited patiently at my side as I snapped the photos I needed. It went sorta like this:
“Now, mama?”
“No, JP – not yet”
“How about now, mommy..?”
…..
I felt like if I didn’t answer, maybe he would give up… I was wrong.
“Can I have just one, mama?” he asks holding up his index finger
Needless to say, Since I had to take the pictures pretty quickly, I thought I’d share him enjoying them as well.. He kinda reminds me of that kid Mikey from the 80’s!
