Last week I had the pleasure of attending a cooking class at my local Central Market Dallas and it totally did not disappoint. The focus was on envy apples and the ways you can incorporate apples into your meals.

These 4 incredible teachers put together breakfast, lunch, dinner and a soup using Envy Apples. Central Market cooking school will give you some random kitchen safety tips as they teach too! Our instructor touched on how to safely handle your mandolin slicer. We sat and observed the kitchen in front of us while the big flat screen helped us peer into the pot to watch the recipe transform. All while enjoying a glass of rose wine 😉

I enjoyed watching them make it all look so easy! Then we got to sample the goods… The dishes they made were nothing short of gourmet!

Another tid-bit I learned.. I enjoy baking, so I was excited to learn about what vanilla bean paste was. Expensive, but if you love vanilla in your baking, it’s definitely the way to go! It’s like a thicker, more pungent version of vanilla extract. They even give you a convenient little coupon when you leave class to do some in-store shopping! 🙂

Central Market carries it, but Amazon also makes it easy to order vanilla bean paste for about the same price.

The showed us how to make an incredibility simple and delicious butternut squash soup with Envy Apples..

And how to properly cook pork!

And a green salad featuring walnuts, celery, apples and parmesan cheese shavings. Can you guess which part I ate first?

So I went home with some Envy Apples in my bag feeling inspired to cook something sweet. No matter what recipe I thought of making, my mind always came back to apple crisp.

Apple crisp and I go way back… Way back to home economics in 8th grade when I made my first one! It is one of my favorite thing to do with apples besides apple pie. I used 2 whole Envy Apples, peeled and sliced..

They taught us in class the fastest way to core Envy Apples!

Boom.

Then I added some cinnamon, baking powder, baking soda and some flour into the granulated sugar.. Then coat the apple slices with it! Set the bowl aside and start making the crumble part.

I used a pastry blender after using 2 butterknives to cut the butter into the flour, sugar and oatmeal.

Then I put the apples in a baking dish and covered it with the crumble topping. Set it in the oven for 40 minutes!

Sidenote – Yes, that is my iPhone stand in the above photo. I always have it handy in the kitchen because I have so many recipe e-books! I have one of those pop sockets gadgets that sticks to my phone case and that’s what the stand works with.

Best treat ever!!
