Sometimes I get a craving for cake.. But my problem is cake is not always readily available in my house for more reasons than I can list, so what’s a girl to do? I’m all about solutions so I found a great way to satisfy my desire for chocolate cake by making myself a chocolate strawberry trifle with chocolate cake Hostess Twinkies.
I picked up these 2 new boxes of Hostess Twinkies while doing some groceries at Walmart over the weekend. I couldn’t decide which one I wanted more, so I ended up coming home with both.
So while I love eating Twinkies just as they come, it’s much more fun to use them in a creative way way and create a dessert that you would never guess was made with just 2 ingredients. I used regular strawberry yogurt because I love the taste with the new chocolate cake Twinkies you see above. This would also work well with plain frozen topping as well if you don’t want to use yogurt.
I simply sliced 2 Twinkies in 1/4″ pieces and filled the bottom of a clear glass cup with a tablespoon of strawberry yogurt.
Layer in some chocolate cake Twinkies on top, more yogurt and repeat until you fill the glass completely. You can even pre-make these ahead of time for entertaining! I love setting out pretty desserts when I have guests over and these are so easy and quick to put together.
Not to be left out, but there’s also the new chocolate covered Twinkies which I picked up as well. I didn’t think it would work for this dessert, but they are delicious to enjoy on their own.
I added a few chocolate chips on top for garnish and it added some texture and sweetness. I’m such a chocoholic!!
