‘Tis the season for grilling and bbq parties! Planning a fun gathering among family and friends has got to be my favorite part of the whole summer. We like to cook alot of different things on our grill from steaks to hot dogs, but we always prepare sides in the kitchen. I decided to try something different instead of just throwing the hotdogs on the grill – I made a corn meal batter and deep fried them. MmmmMmmm!
Some may swear that all hot dogs are the same, but I fully disagree. My all time favorites are Hebrew National because they just simply taste better. It also doesn’t hurt that it’s not made with any gross by-products either – a huge plus, especially if they’re being fed to my kids. I decided to stock up the last time I went to Kroger and saw them in the open chest fridge – they are on sale for $3.99 a package!
If you have a deep fryer, the rest is a breeze. I used some mini Popsicle sticks (regular sized ones work too) and I cut each hot dog into 3 equal lengths. I slid a stick inside each piece and set aside for dipping in the corn meal batter
Corn meal batter is very simple – here is what you need:
- 1 1/4 cup of flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 3/4 cup corn meal
- 4 tbs of sugar
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 2 eggs
- 3/4 cup milk
Mix all the dry ingredients together and then add the eggs and milk. Mix it all until it’s lump-free.
Then its time to get your hot dogs ready…
Behold!! – The Mouth Watering Mini Corn Dog!
I didn’t invent anything new here, but a good tasty hot dog sure makes all the difference. Putting them on mini Popsicle sticks makes them into a great finger food appetizer for guests to enjoy. Plus kids love them!
Enjoy with a side of mustard…
*The combination of franks and these toppings may not be Kosher.
Or enjoy them off the grill!
Hebrew National premium franks are by far my favorite because of their content – no artificial flavors, colors, fillers or by-products here! These hot dogs are made with premium cuts of 100% kosher beef from the front half of the cow.
