As often as possible, we do family movie nights on the weekends because it’s a fun and entertaining way to spend time with each other. It goes without saying that there’s usually a batch of yummy treats that go with it! Popcorn is always a favorite, but I’ve grown bored of just plain straight up popcorn from the microwave bag. Since caramel coated is one of my personal favorites, I decided to put a little spin on my own version and see if I could make a batch of my own.
I was shopping at Sam’s club last week gathering some staples when I came across the demo station giving out cups of ACTII Microwaved Popcorn mixed with crushed OREO cookies. JP was instantly in love and asked if we could buy the big carton of popcorn.
Sure.. Why not – we’ll definitely get through it!
So when I got home, I thought about how I wanted to dress mine up. I couldn’t get the idea of crushed cookies out of my mind, so I pulled out my maple creme sandwich cookies and some caramel bits to make it my own.
I melted the caramel bits according to the directions on the package, and crushed up 5-6 cookies in a ziplock bag with a meat tenderizer. And most importantly, popped the popcorn in the microwave.
I love the convenience and taste of microwaved popcorn, but there’s nothing more disgusting than burned microwaved popcorn. I avoid this by listening carefully to the popping to judge when its time to pull it out.
With the melted caramel and the cookie crumbles, I mixed it all up in a large bowl.
A sticky, delicious mess!
The other night was rainy – complete with thunder! It was the perfect night to pop in a movie and get cozy – so I made us a bowl, got a blanket and rented something from the on-demand movies on our TV. I cherish times like these!
