Ever since JP has begun kindergarten in September, I have been forced to start getting up and at ’em at the ungoldly hour of 6am because he is expected to be sitting in his classroom at 7:30am. I wish I could say I was a “morning” person, but the truth is, I am not – and neither is he. With that being said, mornings can be slightly chaotic with all the coaxing I must do to get him out of bed, brush teeth, eat breakfast, get dressed.. etc.. It goes without saying that by the time I finish making breakfast AND lunch for both him and my husband, I am ready for a cup of coffee and a moment to myself to read my morning email in peace and see what’s going on in my facebook feed.

On certain days hubby doesn’t have to go into work until later, so there’s a few days a week we get to enjoy some quiet time together and have a cup of coffee before he hustles off to work. I usually like to drink my coffee straight up black, but he prefers something sweeter with lots of cream – his favorite? A Caramel Macchiato. I got really inspired to try my at-home version when I saw some McCafé Coffee pods for sale at Walmart. They were even giving out free samples to try!

McCafé is part of the Kraft brand – be sure to check it out on the Walmart Kraft Hub website to hear about new recipes, sweepstakes, loyalty coupons and much more!

I decided to pick up some coffee pods for use in my favorite coffee machine at home. The store I visited had both pods and bagged coffee in light, medium and dark flavors but keep your eyes peeled for the 8 different flavors they have available at Walmart. McCafé coffee is made from 100% arabica beans and grown from the rich soils and mountainous regions of the foremost coffee-growing areas of the world.

So to begin making my caramel macchiato, I start with about 2-3 tablespoons of heavy cream depending on how much cream you like in your coffee. Then I add 2 heaping teaspoons of caramel sauce, I used the kind meant for sundaes and it worked just fine. And then add another 2 teaspoons of sugar on top of that – perfect for those people who like lots of cream and sugar!

Then I blend it up with my secret tool…. It’s a portable formula mixer, but it works beautifully at whipping up the cream so its nice and thick before the coffee is poured in.

Then of course, the fun part – the coffee!!

So what kind of coffee do you enjoy drinking? Do you have a secret recipe that rivals that overpriced coffee house we all love?
