If you like sweet, sticky and spicy – that is…

No, this recipe is not for the lovers of dry rub. This is a recipe for a sticky, finger lickin mess that you will make again and again. It has quickly become a HUGE family favorite in our house! Ok, maybe it’s just MY favorite, but my hubby is a spicy dry rub rib eater. Hence the reason you will see my large rack cut in 2 pieces before I begin cooking it. I’ll post my memphis dry rub recipe another time 🙂

I started off tenderizing the ribs by steaming them on a low heat in the oven. Super easy – all you do is fill a roasting pan with about 1/2″ of water, lay the ribs meat side down and cover with foil. Bake at 250 degrees for about 3 hours. I lined my roasting pan with foil so it made cleanup alot easier when it was done cooking.

See? After it cooled, cleanup was a cinch! But now I am getting ahead of myself….. Time to make that heavenly rib sauce!

Sweet, Sticky & Spicy BBQ Glaze for meat

Recipe Type: Ribs
Author: Jayna Denbow
Ingredients
  • 1 cup applesauce
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 2 cups packed brown sugar
  • 6 tbspns lemon juice
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. pepper
  • 1/2 tsp. paprika
  • 1/2 tsp. garlic salt
  • 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
Instructions
  1. Mix everything together in a pot and bring to a boil for 5 minutes stirring constantly. Transfer it into a jar or container and let cool before you put it into the fridge.
  2. makes 16 ozs.
  3. Always calculate 1 pound of ribs per person
  4. For extra tenderness, marinate them in the sauce overnight, but be sure to save some of the sauce to brush the ribs when cooking on the grill!

I let it cool while the ribs finished cooking – about 2.5 to 3 hours. Then I basted  mine with the first coating of sauce while my hubby’s side got dry rubbed.

Then I finished it up on the grill – on high heat for a few minutes while basting a few more times. I really wanted it to have a nice thick, yummy coating!

Sides? Forget it! I just wanted to dig into the good part!
